IQL Symposia
The IQL Symposia is an event that we run every two years in various locations around the UK and Ireland.
The Symposia events are the most prestigious events in IQL's meeting calendar. The Symposia events cover a number of relevant selected topics in the forefront of water safety and lifeguarding.
2010
The IQL Symposia 2010 was held in London, Edinburgh and Dublin during October and November 2010.
The events were titled 'Pool Lifeguarding, Technical Inputs and Legal Outputs' and were attended by over 300 delegates, ranging from Manager's, Trainer Assessors, Lifeguards and Solicitors. Attendees heard from a variety of speakers who provided presentations about the most relevant topics affecting our industry.
The theme in the morning concerned the management of health and safety legislation relating to a swimming pool environment and was started by our keynote speaker Lord Young of Graffham.
In the afternoon things became a little more technical with the Chief Medical Advisor for the Royal Life Saving Society starting the afternoon off with a presentation on the updated CPR guidelines.
In this section you will find videos and presentations from the Symposia events as well as a summary of common queries and our answers to them.
2008
The IQL Symposia 2008 was held in Birmingham, Edinburgh and Belfast during September and October 2008.
The events were titled 'Lifeguarding – Meeting the Challenge' and were attended by over 400 delegates. At the symposia we revealed some important research. The IQL UK Ltd worked in partnership with Leisure Net Solutions on a feasibility study which culminated in an industry survey of approximately 400 general managers, duty mangers and senior managers.
The Symposia in 2008 was the unofficial launch of the RLSS UK National Pool Management Qualification (NPMQ) as the nature of the survey results were ultimately responsible for the NPMQ being written.
In addition in 2008, we launched a new piece of software designed to manage Lifeguard's ongoing training and competency assessments. This was in direct response to training gaps the IQL identified from feedback received from our Approved Training Centres and Trainer Assessors.
In this section you will find videos and presentations from the Symposia events as well as a summary of common queries and our answers to them.
