Young Leaders Award
Young Leaders Award - Introduction
The Young Leaders Award is an introductory leadership award of the Royal Lifesaving Society UK. The award provides a soft introduction to the skills of leadership, which can be used in every aspect of Lifesaving, as well as in the candidate's personal lives.
The Award is aimed at young people aged 12 years or over and presents a great opportunity for them to develop fundamental leadership skills in a safe, familiar environment alongside a qualified trainer.

How to Become a Young Leader Tutor
The Young Leader Award is the exciting introductory leadership award of the Royal Lifesaving Society UK. The award provides a soft introduction to the skills of leadership which can be used in every aspect of Lifesaving, as well as in the candidate's personal lives.
To become a Young Leader Tutor you need to ensure that you have at least one of the following prerequisites:
- Rookie Instructor
- RLSS UK Instructor
- TA (Any discipline)
- Qualified School Teacher (including NQT)
- Level Two Coach
- Sport Leader Tutor
- ASA Level 2 Teacher or Coach

Assistant Lifesaving Instructor
Assistant Lifesaving Instructor
This is the introductory qualification to the Instructor Programme. The syllabus trains the key Lifesaving teaching skills and holders of the award are able to assist with the teaching of Lifesaving skills, knowledge and awards.
The prerequisites for the qualification are to hold current RLSS UK Membership, and hold a current Life Support 3 by the completion of the Active Participation section of the course.
Rookie Lifeguard Instructor
Rookie Lifeguard Instructor
This qualification is specific to the teaching of the Rookie Lifeguard awards. Those candidates who cannot qualify through approved prior learning channels will develop a comprehensive knowledge of the Rookie Lifeguard Programme and will be able to show the essential Lifesaving, teaching, class management, and health and safety skills and knowledge required to teach the Rookie Lifeguard awards.

This qualification is specific to teaching the Survive and Save Programme Awards. Candidates develop a thorough understanding learning styles and teaching methods, learning through practical use of the Survive and Save Programme Instructor resources both in the classroom and in the swimming pool.
The prerequisites for the qualification are to hold current RLSS UK Membership, and hold a current Life Support 3 by the completion of the course.

Lifesaving Instructor Tutor
This qualification is specific to teaching of the Lifesaving Instructor Course and the Survive and Save Programme Awards. Candidates add to the their knowledge learning and teaching by developing their understanding of the specific needs of adult learners, feedback, and training needs analysis.
The prerequisite for this qualification is the Lifesaving Instructor qualification.
Open Water Instructor
Open Water Endorsement (Open Water Instructor)
The Open Water Endorsement is required by all Instructors teaching the open water awards (beach and inland). Candidates learn about the hazards and risks of the open water environment, open water risk assessment, Society open water policies, and other safety requirements of open water activity.
The prerequisite for this qualification is the Lifesaving Instructor qualification.
