National Water Safety Management ProgrammeÂ
Â
In recent years RLSS UK has recognised the need for a new flexible modular programme that delivers basic water safety training for a wide work force and developed a new vocational open water safety training programme. The Water Safety Management Programme (WSMP) builds on the successful 'Emergency Response Activity Supervisor' award but with greater emphasis on pro-active and preventative 'Management'. The aim is to equip leaders with the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions when managing groups in, on or around the water margins and provide necessary personal safety skills for lone workers operating around water.
Â
The new modular format creates the flexibility to maximise accessibility to a wide audience, including the education sector, outdoor leaders and uniformed emergency services and has a hierarchy of 3 training levels. The Basic Water Safety Awareness Module provides Level 1 and underpins the programme. On completion of Level 1 candidates can progress to Level 2 and select from a menu of environment specific modules including Beach, River and Still Water and the option to do Basic Life Support. For the more energetic and fit leaders Level 3 teaches deep water rescue and spinal extraction.
